Jammu, May 11 '2016 - The journalist fraternity today remembered Ashok Sodhi - a photojournalist on his eighth death anniversary, who sacrificed his life while performing his professional duties during an encounter at Samba in 2008.
The Press Club of Jammu, this morning organised a simple function to pay homage and tributes to late photojournalist.
Media men from both electronic and print assembled at the venue at lightened candles besides playing floral tributes to him.
Speaking on the occasion, President Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar remembered his days with the late Sodhi and termed him as a professional man.
He said that Sodhi was not only known for his professionalism but also his participation in social activities besides getting always ready to help the needy.
“Last year a photography competition was also organised in the memory of Late Ashok Sodhi, which was named as Ashok Sodhi Memorial Photography Award,” he said adding that it will be an annual feature now.
Secretary General, Press Club of Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, also spoke on the occasion and advised the working journalists to be careful and alert while performing their professional duties.
“The budding journalists especially those who are not equipped with safety gadgets, must remain cautious while covering the incidents of encounters and law and order related problems,” said the Secretary.
Former President Press Club of Jammu and a Senior Journalist, Manu Shrivatsa recalled his closeness with Sodhi and his contribution besides role in the development of the Press Club of Jammu.
He said that Ashok Sodhi Memorial Library at the Press Club of Jammu was a small tribute to remember him forever.
The journalists also observed two minutes silence.
Others present on the occasion were offices bearers Press Club of Jammu, Abhimanyu Sharma (vice president), Dinesh Manhotra (Treasurer), members of executive committee and senior journalists, Sanjit Khajuria, Pradeep Dutta, Rajneesh Parihan, Channi Anand, Sameer Bhat, Sunny Dua, Rajan Vaid, Mohit Kandhari, Gurjeet Singh, Sudhir Kumar, Amarjit Singh, Inderjeet Singh, Raman Raina, Sham Sunder and young journalists.
